Orr and Shaw headline Mindful Money awards and conference

The awards themselves will be hosted by popular comedian Te Radar at Generator@GridAKL on June 29 with awards and conference organisers Mindful Money releasing the line-up of speakers a week before entries to the awards close at 5pm on Monday, May 10.

RBNZ chief Adrian Orr will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural Mindful Money Awards and Ethical Investment conference to be held in Auckland late next month.
The awards themselves will be hosted by popular comedian Te Radar at Generator@GridAKL on June 29 with awards and conference organisers Mindful Money releasing the line-up of speakers a week before entries to the awards close at 5pm on Monday, May 10.
Mindful Money founder and chief executive Barry Coates says he's pleased with the level of interest in the awards and is urging those thinking of entering to get busy with their entries.
“We encourage all those active in the ethical and impact investment movement to enter," says Coates.
"These are the inaugural New Zealand awards, and we look forward to celebrating the first-ever winners.”
The awards will be preceded by a conference focusing on investing for climate action.
The conference will feature keynote addresses by Adrian Orr, Governor of the Reserve Bank, drawing on his leadership in responsible investment and climate change at the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and the Reserve Bank.
“Adrian Orr has recognised the crucial importance of climate risk for macroeconomic stability and positioned New Zealand as a leading participant in the international network of central banks on climate change and sustainability," says Coates.
"We are looking forward to hearing his analysis of the challenges ahead.”
A second keynote address will be made by Minister for Climate Change James Shaw who will put the urgency of action on climate finance in the context of the government’s climate strategy.
Coates says Shaw has been energetic in establishing a sound legal and policy framework for climate action.
"He has recognised that action to reduce our emissions will need a fundamental change to our finance system. We look forward to him setting the stage leading into the panel discussion.”
The conference panel discussion features Dr Rod Carr, chairperson of the Climate Change Commission, Bridget Coates, co-chairperson of the Centre for Sustainable Finance, Erica Finney, executive director of 350 Aotearoa and leading researcher and journalist Rod Oram.
The awards ceremony will be emceed by Te Radar and will celebrate the leading fund providers in ethical investment, the pioneers for impact investment, new climate-focused funds, financial advisers and journalists.
